Bletchley Park - Break The Code

這是我在研究所第二學期完成的其中一項作品。主題是布萊切利園以及當時在裡面工作的女孩們。
我從不同管道蒐集許多她們的故事，在一兩個月的研究之後，我創造了這個虛構的女孩，讓他代表這些曾為國家服務的女性們。我製作了八項女孩手提包裡的物品，以及他的私人日記和一個藏起來的秘密拼圖，放在一個紙製的小包裡，形成一本獨特的書。
我希望讀者可以用解謎的方式閱讀這本書，與書中物品互動，並透過線索拼湊出當時的生活狀況與女孩的秘密。
I finished this project in the second term of my MA course, after a few months
research of Bletchley Park and figures behind curtain during WW2.
I mainly focus on female workers who were majority inside Bletchley, while nobody noticed them. I collected their stories and tried to create a girl, Betty, who can represent all of them. This bag book contains a diary from Betty, 8 objects about her stories inside Bletchley, and her secret memory about her best friend.
I designed this book as a puzzle game. Audiences can interact with objects inside, combining with records in diary, to figure out lives and stories of
these girls.
書中的物品都與日記裡的故事有關。而秘密拼圖被藏在包包的夾層中，裡頭講述了女孩等待不到他朋友，最終失去連絡的故事。
There are 8 objects about her life, containing a puzzle hiding in a secret pocket inside the bag.
Puzzle is about her waiting for her friend when they get old and lost contact.
我最後在書封安上了一把鎖，去表示封塵的記憶和秘密。因為當時在裡面的工作人員並不被允許紀錄或透漏任何事情。
日記上有我設計的密碼印章，破解後是我的名字和此作品主題。
There is a lock on the bag to create secret feeling. Basically the workers are forbidden to record anything about Bletchley Park at that time. It was the top secret of this country.
I also created a simple alphabet code on the cover of diary, including my name and the title of this project.
這是一款複雜的全手工書。為了製作成包包的樣式，我參考了許多該年代的女包製作圖。也與工作室老師嘗試了數款紙材來確定最終效果。我在製作時也使用了針線縫製，讓整本書更像真實的皮包。
This is a complicated handmade book. I want it to be exactly the old-fashion purse style, thus, I collected lots of making information of lady purse. I also tried ten different papers and textures in studio to make sure the final outcome is realistic. I also used needle work on this project to make it more like a real purse.
布萊切利園區裡巨大的紅杉相當有標誌性。因此我用它的果實和樹葉圖騰來製作皮包書的內裡。暗示著這一整個故事都與園區息息相關。我自己刻製橡皮章並且利用拓印方式來製作圖騰。
There is a symbolic redwood standing in Bletchley Park. I used it to make pattern inside the purse book. I carved rubber stamps and made my own ink colours to do relief printing.
書裡的八個物件以及隱藏的拼圖，還有一本小日記，都是手工剪貼製作。因為實在太細緻，所以用了較厚的紙卡以防斷裂。
下面試日記的內頁以及一些物件製作過程。
Eight objects inside the purse and the secret puzzle, with the diary book, are all handmade. They are too tiny and delicate, so, I chose thicker card boards to prevent tearing. These are processes of objects making and inner pages of diary.
這本書製作過程複雜但有趣，每個環節我都相當認真規劃。希望讀者可以用解謎遊戲一般的閱讀體驗來探索這本書。
The procedure of making this project is complicated but intriguing. I paid attention to every details of planning. I hope readers can explore this book like a real puzzle game!
